My personal involvement with prisoners started when, in 1998, I replied to an advert for a penfriend from a death-row prisoner in Trinidad.
Later, through Prisoners Abroad, I corresponded (or 'penchatted') with British prisoners imprisoned across the world.
Through the many websites set up to encourage us to write to prisoners I am now also writing to people in prison in Egypt, Zambia and several in the USA.
Through all of this I have learnt more about the day to day experiences in a prison environment. Even the smallest encouragement is appreciated by people for whom loneliness is common.
To encourage these men and women I would often visit a local christian bookshop to seek out books, leaflets or bookmarks--just something small to brighten their day.
Through reading a copy of "Chicken Soup for the Prisoner's Soul" in June 2004 I realised even more how one person could make a difference if they chose to. Hence the decision to set up Hope Books to distribute free Christian books and devotionals to prisons to give hope and encouragement.
We hope to be able to provide free books with a Christian theme to allow people to explore the Christian faith. So far we have provided Christian books to the Chaplaincy team in three UK prisons.
We believe wholeheartedly that our past does not dictate our future--and that God's grace is more than enough for each one of us--
Thanks for visiting this webpage.
